Itävaltalainen Patrick tuli vapaaehtoiseksi Lapualle
Hello, my name is Patrick Ulmer I am 19 years old and I was born and raised in Altach. Altach is a small Village (7000 inhabitants) in the West part of Austria and it boarder to Switzerland. I am interested in all kind of sports like downhill skiing, hiking, skating and a lot more. So I have to thank my parents, that they played a lot with me in the nature, when I was a kid.
I arrived on the 5th of February and will stay here in Finland until the 16th of December. So more than enough time to discover new places and get to know a lot of new and interesting people. I am here in Finland because of the EVS (European Voluntary Service). I’m working in the Youth House of Lapua as a volunteer.
What is EVS about? If you are between 18 and 30 years, you can participate. You can choose among all European countries and search for different kinds of projects and go abroad for a certain amount of time. You will receive pocket/food money and money to travel.
But, why Finland? And not another country with beautiful sea places white beaches and sunny weather all the time? Because until I knew that I am going to do an EVS as the next step in my life, it was clear that I wanted to go to a northern country in Europe. It’s a fact that they have one of the best school system in the whole world and their English is really good too, almost everyone can speak English. So it’s one of the best places to improve it. Another big reason why I chose Finland, is that they are also known as the “Land of a thousand lakes” so I am looking forward to the Finnish summer times!
I have not experienced everything yet, but I have eight more month to go and I am really happy about that! If you have some questions about the EVS or just want to talk a little bit with me, I am in the Youth house every day!
